This is my story...The muffler of my car started making loud sounds a week ago. I know I should have gotten it fixed, but it had been a busy week. Now, it is Friday night and I’m headed to meet my date. I pull up to the restaurant and see that he is already waiting for me. As I park my car and walk towards the restaurant, the first thing out of his mouth is “Wow, your muffler is really loud. You should get your exhaust systems checked out!”
He then goes on to explain how the muffler is a part of my car’s exhaust systems and how important it is to remove the fumes from the car. Then before we could even put our name down to eat, he insisted we go back to my car and check it out. He had me turn on my car while he checked the exhaust systems for holes, rust, and the color of the exhaust smoke. There was no rust or holes, but we did hear a clunking sound, which led him to believe a piece had broken off and was stuck inside the system.
Then he told me which mechanic I should go see and proceeded to warn me about all the dangers of carbon monoxide, how it could make you sick or even cause you to pass out. All of which he said could be leaking inside my car because of my broken exhaust. I was totally embarrassed. If only I had taken my car to my mechanic I could have avoided being labeled as a car-ignorant damsel in distress.
Fortunately, I learned my lesson and now make an appointment to take my car into my auto repair shop at the first sign of trouble.
